Well, the weather was much too nice to be cooped up in the library so our attendance was way down. Cecelia brought her picture album and we enjoyed hearing her stories and looking at the pictures of her family properties past and present and some of the interesting landmarks in the Emmitsburg, Fairfield Tract area.
Curt mentioned the new resources for researching the Civil War era on the FCPL website. These are American Civil War Letters and Diaries and American Civil War Research Database. From http://www.fcpl.org/, click on RESEARCH then FCPL ONLINE DATABASES and then HISTORY. The Letters and Diaries database has transcripts from Civil War soldiers’ letters, memoirs and diaries. It has an extensive Table of Contents for browsing by categories and is also searchable using keywords with advance search capability. The Research database has rosters of soldiers participating in the battles and members of various military units. It includes an extensive collection of photographs and officer profiles. It also has extensive search capability.
I expect you are all aware of the FRECOGS, Frederick County Genealogical Society (http://www.frecogs.com/). I will add that link to our favorites. This group has an annual membership fee and holds meetings, outings and activities throughout the year. Their book library is housed at our Frederick LDS Family History Center. They keep their other records at the Historical Society on Church Street in Frederick.
I am planning to attend a workshop at FCC, Genealogy in the Electronic Age. It is 2 sessions of 2 hours each on April 30th and May 7th. I am looking forward to learning some new things there.
Enjoy Springtime and we’ll you next time J
